Built-in the first half of the century. XVIII, the fruit of the talented Nicolau Nasoni, the Mateus Palace surrounded by beautiful gardens set in a vast farm is considered one of the greatest exponents of the Baroque civil architecture in Portugal.
Its interior decoration highlights the richly crafted wooden ceilings, furniture from different eras, 17th and 18th-century painting, silver objects, ceramics, and a library.
It is owned by the Casa de Mateus Foundation, which has developed an intense cultural activity, namely in the areas of music, literature, and plastic arts, organizing festivals, courses, seminars, and exhibitions. In this context, the "Encounters of Music of Casa de Mateus" stand out, which take place every year during the summer months.
