Alijó is a Portuguese municipality in the district of Vila Real, in the North, in the Douro sub-region, and in the former province of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
Having its headquarters in the village of Alijó, this municipality has an area of ​​297.60 km² and 11 942 inhabitants (2011), which is subdivided into 14 parishes.
The municipality of Alijó is limited to the north by the municipalities of Vila Pouca de Aguiar and Murça, to the east by Carrazeda de Ansiães, to the south by São João da Pesqueira and to the west by Sabrosa.

The northern part of the municipality of Alijó has a great aptitude for the forest and everything associated with it, namely pastoralism. In the municipality there are about two dozen herds with a significant number of cattle, essentially turned to meat production.
In the southern part of the municipality, the wine sector is dominant, with Alijó being the municipality with the largest area of ​​vines, as well as in the number of barrels of Port wine produced. It is the engine of the county's economy. One of the most important brands is Favaios, produced from the muscat variety.
