Provesende is an old Portuguese parish in the municipality of Sabrosa, with an area of 8.96 km² and 310 inhabitants (2011). Its population density was 34.6 inhabitants/km². It is a winegrowing village in the Douro.
It was extinguished (aggregated) by the administrative reorganization of 2012/2013, with its territory integrated into the Union of Parishes of Provesende, Gouvães do Douro and São Cristóvão do Douro

Located in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region, on the north bank of the river, in the municipality of Sabrosa.
Among the vineyards, manor houses and stone houses, Provesende offers a journey through time and communion between the past and the present.
Provesende is a village located in the municipality of Sabrosa, on the north bank of the Douro River, about 10kms from Pinhão. Located on top of a plateau, it has a splendid view over the surrounding region.
In the village that was the birthplace of the navigator Fernão de Magalhães, we can find several manor houses and houses with coats of arms, including Casa da Calçada.
In the center of the village is the pillory, next to the Mother Church from the 18th century, and a fountain dating from 1755. There is also a walled castro in ruins in the village.


It was classified as a Douro Wine Village in 2001.
