Sabrosa is a Portuguese village located in the Douro sub-region, belonging to the North region and the district of Vila Real.
It is the seat of the Municipality of Sabrosa, which has a total area of 156.92 km2, 5,548 inhabitants in 2021 and a population density of 35 inhabitants per km2, subdivided into 12 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, to the east by Alijó, to the southeast by São João da Pesqueira, to the south by Tabuaço and Armamar and to the west by Peso da Régua and Vila Real.
Of all the parishes, only Parada do Pinhão, São Lourenço de Ribapinhão and Torre do Pinhão are not included in the Douro Demarcated Region. On December 14, 2001, UNESCO included the Alto Douro Vinhateiro in the list of places considered world heritage in the category of “Mixed Sites”, encompassing areas of the municipality.
Sabrosa is also a municipality with strong connections to Europe and mainly to France and Spain, with which it maintains twinnings with the towns of Cadaujac, land of vineyards, and Guetaria, birthplace of Juan Sebastián Elcano, companion of Fernão de Magalhães who ended the Circum-navigation trip.

Precisely because it is, according to local tradition, the birthplace of Fernão de Magalhães, Sabrosa has also developed privileged relations with the Philippines, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, which has allowed this county, the Douro and Portugal to be projected worldwide.

In the county there are still some dedicated craftsmen who work in the areas of lace, cooperage, basketry, joinery, clogs and cheese making. As a municipality from Trás-os-Montes, in Sabrosa, you can also enjoy good cuisine, including the roasted kid with oven-baked rice, the Portuguese stew, the meat ball, the traditional sausages, the sponge cake, the tall cavacas and cavaquinhas and the famous Douro wines and Port wines.
