Valpaços is a Portuguese city in the Vila Real district, in the North Region, in the Alto Tâmega sub-region and in the former province of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, which in 2011 had 4 539 inhabitants in its urban perimeter.
It is the seat of a municipality with 548.74 km² in area and 16,882 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 25 parishes. The municipality is limited to the northwest by Chaves, to the east by Vinhais and Mirandela, to the south by Murça, and to the west by Vila Pouca de Aguiar.

Economic activity
Agriculture is one of the county's main economic activities. Olive oil, potatoes, chestnuts, wheat, fruit, and wine are the main agricultural products, and livestock is also important. More than half of its active population is in the primary sector. It is the agricultural activity that, directly or indirectly, through industrial transformation, has most contributed to the county's economy.
Tourism is also another important economic activity in this municipality, with rural housing tourism beginning to develop, and ecotourism with the creation of Ecovia do Rabaçal.
